With so much information at our fingertips, it's harder to decipher fact from fiction. Our short attention spans and Internet "opinions" make us more susceptible to fall prey to alternative facts and post-truth politics

Every time you check your phone, your brain releases a small dose of dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain's reward and pleasure centers, this is a main cause for all forms of addiction.

So yes, in some sense, every time you unlock your phone, it's essentially like taking a hit of cocaine. 

This isn't your fault. In fact, most social media platforms succeed on getting you addicted to their platform.

How to take control of your time:

  1. Be aware every time you mindlessly check your phone.
  2. Challenge yourself everyday to unplug for an hour.
  3. Try out a digital detox, put your phone away for 24 hours on a weekend.
  4. Use an app to track how you're spending your time. OFFTIME for your phone, StayFocused for your web browser.
  5. Enjoy your life.
