Do I Need a Contact Lense?

Contact Lenses are one of the most versatile pieces of optical equipment that is available to us today. The range of uses is truly staggering and you are only limited by your own imagination. We take a look at some of the most popular reasons people choose to wear contacts day in, day out.

The first reason that I can think of for wearing a contact lens is for astigmatism. Astigmatism is an extremely common condition where your nearsighted or farsighted is not focused correctly on the retina which causes blurry vision. When wearing glasses, you are restricted to how much distance you can see because of your vision. But with a contact lens you can look down through the whole lens and be able to read the small print on the back. No more glasses required. That’s probably the best use for a contact lens for an asthmatic.

Another reason people choose contact lenses is for cataract surgery. Cataract surgery is very difficult and the results can be amazing when performed correctly but the majority of us will have to live with our sight damaged for the rest of our lives. Wearing a contact lens gives us the freedom to see clearly without the risk of a damaged eye for the rest of our life.

Some people choose to wear contact lenses just for fun. I don’t know about you but I find that whenever I put on my shades, if I’m reading it makes me feel like I’m not really doing anything. If I’m doing something else and come to an important phone call or a big presentation at work, I can feel the tension in my neck because I’m not actually dealing with the situation. It’s a little like a tension-filled sports film where you’re not really the character you’re watching, but the camera cuts away before you get to see what’s going on.

Some people wear contact lens for cosmetic reasons. My sister wears them just for fun and wants to be able to go unnoticed whenever she goes out to eat or to the store. There are some people who think that if they wear glasses they won’t have to deal with people staring at their glasses all day. I think this has to do with our culture and how we view appearance; wearing glasses can make someone self conscious, which is why some people will just pick up a contact lens.

There are some downsides to wearing contact lens. The main one is the fact that your vision will deteriorate over time because you’re putting so much stress on the eyes. Another is that the contacts can sometimes be uncomfortable. You have to make sure that you buy the correct contact lens and go slow at first, if your eyes are red or irritated when you put them on, you shouldn’t put them on for too long.
